In January of 2017, the Officers and Board of TSLPOA entered into a signed written agreement with the WDNR to partner in the Island Stewardship Program. This refers to Pine Island on the small lake.
It is a three-year renewable contract with responsibilities on the part of both TSLPOA and the WDNR. These responsibilities include monitoring the island for any signs of vandalism, overnight camping, litter, excessive noise, destruction of habitat, etc., with both parties caring for the well-being of our island.
The Volunteer Survey Form will be completed annually by the current island steward who may or may not be a member of the TSLPOA Board. The annual report will include the condition of the island and will indicate if attention is needed by the WDNR.
For all practical purposes, Pine Island is our island and we must be good stewards in its maintenance, protection and keeping it natural. This is a first in all of Oneida, Vilas and Iron Counties and we can all be proud.
Any resident can report alleged violations by calling the WDNR Violation Hot Line at 1-800-847-9367, available 24/7.
